'David' - A Study In Lighting

Photoshoot setup ...

Olympus D-340R ...
The 'David' shoot was made using the setup seen on the left. It consisted of three separate shots made with my old trusty Olympus D-340R digital camera (1280x960, 24 bit) which was kept stationary on a tripod.

The props consisted of an old indoor water fountain, a statue of Michelangelo's David I bought while touring in Florence, Italy, some inexpensive plastic flowers, a green sheet used as a backdrop, and a green flower pattern pillow cover for the folding table. A small high-intensity light was moved to three locations, left, middle-front, and right in order to provide the needed special lighting effects for each shot.

"RGB Lights", a graphics program created by MediaChance, was used to simplify the otherwise complicated process of combining these images (see below).

The composite image of 'David', on the right, was created by taking the three digitally filtered images (green-left, blue-middle, red-right), seen below, and combining them using RGB Lights. A final touch up was performed (hue, saturation, etc.), and special effects objects added to produce the final product. The total time from raw photos to finished image was less than one hour . . .
