DOD Sprays - Installing
Return to - Spray Gallery Menu

Overview:

In order for your new spray to work in DOD you will have to perform two steps. First you have to write protect your WAD file to prevent it from being overwritten by DOD, and finally you will have to copy (install) it to the correct directory on your hard drive.

Write Protecting:

Locate the "tempdecal.wad" file that you created using my "Do It Yourself" instructions, or one that I created and you downloaded from this website (ZIP file). The example below shows that my "tempdecal.wad" file for a spray named "Figmo" was stored in "C:\DOD Sprays\Figmo".

Now right-click on that file to open the "tempdecal.wad Properties" dialog window. Put a check mark in the "Read-only" box, click "Apply" and then click "OK". Your file is now write protected.

Installing:

Installation is straightforward. Simply copy the write protected "tempdecal.wad" file to your DOD directory.

Note 1. "Steam" can't be running! Completely close Steam before copying the "tempdecal.wad" file to your DOD directory.

Note 2. Once you have copied this file to your DOD directory DO NOT use the "Options" Menu to select your new spray. It's already installed once you have copied it!

Do not use this Menu!!!

Depending on how you installed DOD will determine how your directory structure will look. I used the most common method using the "Get Steam Now" program from the Steam website. However, you may have installed an old copy of Half-Life first before downloading Steam. This method will change your directory structure. So, look before you copy!

This is the way my DOD directory looks. The "login_name" would be the Steam ID login name that I use. Yours, of course, would be different.

Review:

Copy your "tempdecal.wad" file to:

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\login_name\day of defeat\dod

login_name = your Steam ID login name

Tip: I created a shortcut on my desktop to my DOD directory. I did this because I have many different sprays that I like to change periodically. To make a quick change I just copy the specific "tempdecal.wad" file from my "C:\DOD Sprays" directory to the DOD desktop shortcut.
